Bunge North America Plans to Stay in St. Louis County
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), March 27, 2016 - Bunge North America, a leading agribusiness and food ingredient company, is finalizing the development of a new, state-of-the-art headquarters in St. Louis County and a product innovation center in St. Charles.

The two proposed projects are expected to create nearly 200 new high-paying jobs in Missouri over the next ten years. The proposed project is subject to pending local approval and customary closing conditions.

In a release, Gov. Nixon said, "With the state's unemployment rate at a 15-year low, Missouri's economy continues to accelerate, and expanding companies like Bunge North America are leading the way."

The new four-story, headquarters replaces Bunge's current location which includes two separate buildings. The 145,000 square foot, open concept structure will enhance Bunge's collaborative culture.

"Bunge is proud to have been a part of the St. Louis community for more than 25 years. We are excited to remain in the region because this community is connected to so many links in the ag value chain," said Todd Bastean, CEO, Bunge North America. "As we move to this new campus, we are creating a wonderful environment for our colleagues who are critical to our success in meeting the growing global demand for our products and services."

Bunge decided to keep its more than 550 corporate employees in St. Louis County after conducting a multi-state search for alternative locations.

In addition to retaining the corporate office in St. Louis County, Bunge purchased a building in Missouri Research Park in St. Charles. This facility will house Bunge's innovation center which will include pilot plants for oil and milling products as well as a test kitchen.

"We worked very closely with Bunge leaders to secure these new jobs in St. Louis County," St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger said. "It was a highly competitive search and these new high-paying jobs will have a substantial impact on our economy. We look forward to Bunge continuing to thrive in St. Louis County and more agricultural companies moving here to be near the global center of agricultural technology."

Square Opens at the @4240 in the Cortex Innovation District
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), March 16, 2016 - Gov. Jay Nixon joined St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and Jim McKelvey, co-founder and CEO of Square, to celebrate the opening of the company's new permanent office in St. Louis.

The company's new office is located in the @4240 building of the Cortex Innovation District, where it occupies more than 17,000 sq. ft. of space. The company began outfitting the space in the beginning of November 2015 and completed work on the office in January of this year.

The building, which was constructed in 2013 and completed in 2014, has 202,000 sq. ft. of rentable space. Currently, it is home to several others firms and organizations that either make up or support the local innovative community, including Manifest Digital, Boeing Ventures, Husch Blackwell (IP Group), WU Office of Technology Mgmt. & Grants and Contracts, and the Cambridge Innovation Center.

"As tech companies like Square, World Wide Technology, and LockerDome create hundreds of jobs right here in the heartland, we are further strengthening Missouri's reputation as a growing hub for high-tech jobs and innovation," said Gov. Nixon in a release. "Tech firms across the country are seeing that the resources and workforce they need to succeed can be found right here in the Show-Me State. This is another great day for St. Louis and a tremendous milestone for Missouri's accelerating high-tech economy."

Square is a St. Louis-born startup founded in 2009 by St. Louis natives Jack Dorsey, who also co-founded Twitter, and Jim McKelvey. The mobile payments company creates technology that helps sellers of all sizes unlock the value of every sale. Square's register service is a full point-of-sale with tools for every part of running a business, from accepting credit cards and tracking inventory, to real-time analytics and invoicing. Square also offers sellers financial and marketing services, including small business financing and powerful customer engagement tools.

To date, this global technology company has hired 150 employees in St. Louis, with positions in customer service, account management, risk operations, IT, recruitment and management.

"Square is not only a well-known brand, but it is a symbol of innovation and technology," Mayor Francis Slay said. "I am very proud to welcome Square's employees to the City of St. Louis, which has experienced a pivotal year for tech growth. St. Louisans Jim McKelvey and Jack Dorsey recognize the talent in their hometown, and I thank them for their commitment to help St. Louis attract new talent and new projects as we grow our footprint in the tech world."

In 2013, Jim McKelvey also co-founded LaunchCode, a non-profit organization that creates pathways to economic opportunity and upward mobility through apprenticeships and job placement in technology.

In February, Gov. Nixon joined company leaders to celebrate the opening of LaunchCode's new office at the Sprint Accelerator in Kansas City's Crossroads Arts District, an expansion that was supported by $500,000 from MTC. Last year, Gov. Nixon also announced $604,600 in state support for the development of LaunchCode's new Mentor Center in St. Louis, a learning and technology skills development hub targeted towards disadvantaged youth.
