Hanley House Selected As Landmark host Site by stl250
CLAYTON, MO, (, February 23, 2014 - The Historic Martin Franklin Hanley House in Clayton, MO has been identified as a landmark site for the region by stl250 and will host one of the four-foot, fiberglass cakes marking the 250th anniversary of the City of St. Louis.

Clayton Century Foundation - History contributed the $500 fee to decorate the cake with an historic theme unique to the Hanley House. Decorated by local artist, Andy Cross, the cake will welcome visitors to Clayton's historic gem, located in Hanley Park at 7600 Westmoreland Avenue.

The farmstead, built by Martin Franklin Hanley in 1855, is the oldest structure in the City of Clayton and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The restored home is today an historic house museum filled with original family furnishings, artifacts, and letters that together represent an honest portrayal of 19th century Missouri life.

stl250's Cakeway to the West is a signature project for the 250th anniversary of the founding of St. Louis. The organization is placing 250 four-foot, fiberglass cake sculptures decorated by St. Louis artists in places of note throughout the 15-county bi-state St. Louis region. The cakes will be on display through December 31, 2014.

'Shakespeare in the Streets' Performance Will Take to Streets of Clayton
CLAYTON, MO, (, February 23, 2014 - The Shakespeare Festival St. Louis will take to the streets of Clayton for the 2014 performance of the wildly popular Shakespeare in the Streets (SITS).

"The Shakespeare Festival is one of the exciting additions to Clayton's 2014 special event lineup,"said Clayton Mayor Harold Sanger. "We are excited about and welcome the opportunity to partner with the other communities in the SITS network."

The event in Clayton is scheduled for September 18 - 20, 2014. The now three-year-old SITS is a grassroots theatrical experience that invites St. Louis neighborhoods to tell their unique community stories, and which culminates with three, free one-hour street performances that showcase the combined talents of professional actors who perform alongside local residents.

In the eight months leading up to the Clayton performance, the Festival's creative team - Director Alec Wild, Playwright Nancy Bell, and Production Designer Sean Savoie - will be meeting with residents and community leaders who will contribute to all aspects of the production from story development to the live outdoor performances. The resulting script will be a reflection of one of Shakespeare's play, real conversations and Bell's own impressions. Details on the street location, cast members and actual play for the Clayton performance will be announced later this summer.

The Folke Filbyter sculpture by Carl Milles is located in front of Clayton City Hall at 10 North Bemiston Avenue, Clayton, MO 63105.
