City of Olivette to Host Its Inaugural Turkey Trot
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), October 27, 2014 - The City of Olivette will host its inaugural Turkey Trot, sponsored by Barnes Jewish Hospital West County. This 5K run/walk will be held Thanksgiving Day morning. All proceeds and any canned food collected will be donated to Olivette's local food pantry, the Harvey KornBlum Jewish Food Pantry.

Starting and ending at Stacy Park, runners and walkers will follow a flat course through the streets of Olivette. The race will begin at 8 a.m. with awards and prizes being handed out shortly after 9 a.m.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female overall finishers in each age group. Prizes will be awarded for the following categories: family with the most participants, family with the heaviest bag of food/dry good donations and best costume. The event will take place rain or shine.

All registered participants will receive a long-sleeve t-shirt commemorating the inaugural event. There is a $20 entry fee that will increase to $25 after November 18.

"I am very excited for the City of Olivette to host its first Turkey Trot," said Barbara Sondag, City Manager. "This event is a great way to build community while helping those in need. What better time to do this than Thanksgiving Day!"

Gingerbread House Contest for Lydia's House
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), October 27, 2014 - The Eighth Annual Gingerbread House Contest benefiting Lydia's House will be featured in a new location, Saint Louis Galleria between November 15 - November 23, 2014.

Shoppers can view amazing gingerbread houses created by St. Louis' top chefs and bakers in the theme "United States National Monuments and National Historical Places". Vote on your favorite - or purchase a raffle ticket to win your very own!

Lucinda Pins for Lydia's House will also be on sale, including a special gingerbread house pin for the holidays!

Reinvest North County Fund Issues Second Round of Funding
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), October 23, 2014 - The St. Louis Regional Business Council (RBC) organized the Reinvest North County Fund as an immediate business response when the civil unrest began in Ferguson. In partnership with North County Inc., the fund was created and has already invested $130,000 to support numerous businesses and four school districts.

Today, the Fund is awarding $29,500 to these additional businesses:

911 Hair Salon; Best Insurance/Always Love and Care; Fashions R Boutique; Freedom Customized Care; Nail Trap; New Chong Wah Inc.; Rehoboth Pharmacy; STL Feel Beauty; Velvet Freeze; and Yolo! Boutique.

"The RBC and North County Inc. share a deep appreciation of the challenges that both businesses and schools face during this time," said Kathy Osborn, Executive Director of the RBC. "The Fund has become a vehicle for many caring and generous businesses, organizations and individuals to let the community know we care about them."

Initially, the following school districts received a $10,000 gift to be used for training and support to teachers, students and parents as the community moved forward in a safe and constructive way: Ferguson-Florissant School District, Normandy Schools Collaborative Riverview Gardens School District and the Jennings School District.

Also, $55,000 in grants was awarded to these Ferguson businesses: Ferguson Laundry; Ferguson Market; Infiniti Styles Barbering & Beauty Salon; King David Fashions, LLC; Missouri Home Therapy, LLC; New York Grill, Inc.; Northland Chop Suey; Prime Time Beauty & Barber; Pro Long Nails; St. Louis BBQ/Red the BBQ Man; Sam's Meat Market; and Swiish Bar and Grill.

Rebecca Zoll, President and CEO of NCI, stated, "The Reinvest in North County Fund continues to be about community, not just specific businesses and school districts. This kind of reinvestment is a wonderful vote of confidence in our North County communities."
