Artists for a Cause to Host Dance for Food Event
ST. LOUIS, MO, (SLFP.com), January 6, 2019 - Hunger impacts both families and individuals, including seniors, children, and people with disabilities. It affects the homeless as well as working families who were once stable but now need help to survive.
Artists for a Cause, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports artists who serve community needs, is doing its part to help fight hunger in a unique way. This January, Artists for a Cause will host its third annual Dance for Food series, and invites St. Louis residents to see some of the metro area's strongest dance companies in exchange for a bag of non-perishable food.
Dance for Food is Artists for a Cause's way of raising food for the hungry, while delivering a cultural experience to the community, and bringing the dance community together to help those in need. Artistically directed by Linda Green, the events will take place on January 18, 2019 from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. and on January 20 from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. with pre-show entertainment a half hour before each show at The Grandel Theatre, located at 3610 Grandel Square.
"Dance for Food is a wonderful introduction to dance for young people and folks who don't normally attend dance programs. The events are just over an hour and in that time the audience is able to witness the work of five wonderful companies," explained Terry Barber, founder of Artists for a Cause.
Last year's Dance for Food collected more than 5,000 pounds of food which was donated to local food pantries. This year, partners include Operation Food Search and Food Outreach. To date combined with the ten event series which took place in South Florida, Dance for Food has raised and distributed more than 36,000 pounds of food.
"I'm so proud that, as a younger organization in St. Louis, Artists for a Cause has found support from some of the most well-established arts enthusiasts. Whether you attend to see great dance, or because you want to do your part to stop hunger, we hope to see you January 18 or 20 at Dance for Food 2019," Barber said.
The 2019 Dance for Food series is made possible because of a generous grant from the Monsanto Fund. Artists for a Cause would also like to than the Kranzberg Arts Foundation for support of its programs in St. Louis. There is still time for others to join and help support this important series.
